Strong Leadership For IAAO
Patrick Alesandrini, CAE, RES
Principled. Proven. Experienced.
Leadership
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Pat Alesandrini has stepped up to lead in various situations and conditions during his lifetime. Fundamental to Pat's success over the years has been being able to see the big picture, developing a plan, and then allowing his staff to use their skill sets to accomplish the necessary goals. He considers delegating authority as a key to a successful operation. The following are just three recent examples of situations where his leadership skills are displayed.
Thinking Outside the Box to Help Others -
Hurricane Michael
As soon as Hurricane Michael made landfall, the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's Office, Honorable Bob Henriquez, began to reach out to the counties hit by this horrific event. Working with the Honorable Greg Brown of Santa Rosa County, Pat began to spearhead a team effort to combine public and private organizations to assist in Bay County, FL (Mexico Beach), Honorable Dan Sowell. In a combined effort between the Bay County Property Appraiser, Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser, Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, iLookabout, Eagleview, and qpublic, a new procedure was created to perform damage assessment of properties, some of which were not accessible by vehicles. This procedure utilized high resolution imagery, GIS, and public records to view and assess the damaged properties. The other unique aspect about this operation was that the damage assessment was being performed by jurisdictions throughout the State of Florida and Georgia. This combined effort in a newly designed operation allowed 14 counties to assist in the damage assessment of a jurisdiction hundreds of miles away! Pat, along with the Honorable Greg Brown, presented white papers on this innovative process at the 2019 IAAO Conference.
Leading For the Future
Pat has received valuable training in the purpose behind and execution of strategic planning in various leadership roles over the years, but most recently during his time on the IAAO Board of Directors. The training and understanding Pat received showed that these plans were living and breathing documents that provided guidance for future leaders and made the job of various committees and task forces easier to do. With the strategic plan in place, it provides guidance on what the organization wishes to accomplish. As President of the Florida Chapter of IAAO, the largest chapter in IAAO with nearly 1,200 members, Pat guided the board through the creation of a strategic plan, including an update of the Chapter's Mission and Vision Statements. These documents allowed for the updating of the organization's procedural rules to be more in line with the strategic plans of the Florida Chapter and IAAO's governing documents. You can read and review these documents at the Chapter's website, www.fciaao.org.
Leading in Adversity - COVID-19
As Pat's time as President of the Florida Chapter was coming to an end, the COVID-19 pandemic created new and unprecedented challenges. The FCIAAO annual conference and election of new officers and board members was scheduled to take place at the end of April. The pandemic resulted in the conference being cancelled and the elections had to take place electronically, which the Chapter's bylaws did not allow. After cancelling the conference, Pat led his board through the process of making the proposed necessary changes to the bylaws to allow for virtual meetings, electronic voting, and the installation of new officers, which then had to be voted on and approved by the membership. After this was accomplished, adjustments were made to the procedural rules and elections were held. The rule changes, the electronic election, and the transfer of power occurred within six weeks, without any delay or disruptions.

Meet Pat
Professionalism and Service to Others
Patrick Alesandrini
Pat is the Chief Deputy Property Appraiser in Hillsborough County, FL. He has the CAE, RES, MAI, and SRA designations and has been active in teaching and writing valuation/assessment materials for over 40 years.
Pat began his career very early, growing up working in construction for his father’s firm and later clerking in his father’s appraisal office during school. His father, Eugene S. Alesandrini, SRA was a fee appraiser and his uncle, Angelo J. Alesandrini, RES was a county assessor. Pat was trained very early in real estate and valuation and after studying economics at university, became the Chief Deputy Assessor in Tazewell County, IL at the age of 23. It was during the following five years that he found his passion for learning and teaching and became an IAAO instructor.
At the end of five years Pat left the county to work with in his father’s valuation business Alesandrini & Associates, Inc. A large portion of Pat’s experience in the fee side of valuation was in litigation work representing counties, municipalities, and school districts in ad valorem tax appeals. However, it was during this time that he also began to consult, write, train, and provide general reappraisal services in the mass appraisal industry. The volume of this work eventually led to the creation of REVES, Inc. (Real Estate Valuation and Education Systems). His work with REVES provided exposure to the assessment process throughout North and Central America. In addition to mass appraisal services, Pat was engaged by numerous states to work as an expert in mass appraisal, appraisal theories, and assist in developing programs and policies.
REVES, Inc was purchased by Manatron, Inc where Pat, as a subject matter expert in mass appraisal, became the Vice President of Product Development. His duties in this position took him to work throughout the world assisting with valuation issues.
In January of 2013, Pat was hired by Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, the Honorable Bob “Coach” Henriquez. As the Chief Deputy in Hillsborough County, Pat has been involved with all valuation aspects of the office, helped expand the uses of technology, and will hopefully retire, just as he started his professional career, in serving the public through county government. Bob has encouraged Pat’s involvement in IAAO both on the state and international levels.
Pat is sought after as a speaker for many state and local programs throughout the country and as an instructor has taught in many places throughout the world. Pat and his wife Mary have been married for 41 years and they have a 26 year old daughter, Elizabeth.
